What happens to old gadgets?

I’m currently writing this post sitting on a big sofa, writing this on my Mac, which I think is my 8th Mac laptop in a row. My wife is sitting next to me, typing something on her Mac and in front of me is my trusty HTPC Mac Mini (with Boxee) and so many other gadgets. My point is, we keep on changing our gadgets and computers quite rapidly and many times I’ve wondered what happens to them. When Apple says, that they’re working their asses off to make sure they go greener every day, what does it actually mean?

It means places and businesses like this:

The demanufacturing center at one of the world’s largest electronics scrap recyclers

The demanufacturing center at one of the world’s largest electronics scrap recyclers

To me that looks just like the ending of the first Indy movie, right before the Ark burns the Nazi symbols from the crate. You know what I mean.

Wired did a good article about it and a guide on how to recycle our gadgets. Be an eco-geek for a day and check it out!
